Text Box: April 28th Monday - Medieval City of Kilkenny

The day trip brings you on a 2 hour journey through the Wicklow Mountains and over to the Medieval city of Kilkenny. Founded in the 6th Century by St Canice, Kilkenny went on to be at one point in medieval times of more importance than the capital, Dublin. Kilkenny offers you so much in the day that covers so many different tastes, maybe a visit and tour of the imposing Butler castle that overlooks the city and the river Nore, originally built in the 12th century and now restored to its 17th century grandeur. On the opposite end of town St Canices Cathedral, the site of the founding of the monastic settlement now a medieval cathedral and round tower, or a walk between the two on the narrow medieval streets of the city, with its slipways and walks. Kilkenny also has some good shopping and crafts within the Kilkenny design centre showing local arts at their best.
