Text Box: May 2nd Friday - Glendalough & Avoca A short drive through the countryside brings us to the 6th century monastic site of St Kevin at Glendalough, a glaciated Valley in the Wicklow mountains, surrounded by two lakes is the location of the monastic site set up by the hermit monk. Learn about the arrival and growth of Christianity in Ireland and how through the ages Ireland became the land of saints and scholars, the reason for the Celtic cross and the round tower synonymous with the settlements. From here travel through the vale of Clara to the Vale of Avoca and the village of the same name but also known as Ballykissangel from the BBC series that was filmed on location here. Just on the edge of the town is the famous Avoca Handweavers where you will have the opportunity to see them at work and then browse through their showrooms.
